Motor vehicle accidents involving motorcycles often result in serious or fatal injuries. Drivers who hit or collide with motorcycles are often distracted and fail to keep a proper lookout for motorcycles. A recent Ohio motorcycle accident serves as a reminder to Ohio drivers on the dangers associated with such accidents.
The accident occurred around 7 p.m. along a two-lane highway. A 75-year-old driver crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 47-year-old motorcyclist. After colliding with the motorcycle, the 75-year-old's car then crashed into another car that was traveling behind the motorcycle.
Thankfully, the 47-year-old motorcyclist who was struck was wearing a helmet. While he sustained numerous serious injuries, he is expected to live. Also injured in the three-vehicle crash were the 17-year-old driver and 51-year-old passenger of car that was following the motorcycle. Both individuals were treated for their injuries at a nearby hospital and released. A 49-year-old passenger in the car that caused the accident was also injured. He too received medical treatment and was released.
The medical condition of the 47-year-old motorcyclist is currently not known. Accidents in which motorcyclists are struck head-on, however, typically result in multiple and serious injuries.
Even though the man was wearing a helmet, it's likely he sustained a head injury. Other injuries common in these types of motorcycle accidents include neck and spinal injuries, broken bones and internal injury and bleeding.
These types of injuries often result in permanent disability and long-term health problems. They also typically require months or years of medical and rehabilitative treatment all of which can be financially taxing.
