While car accidents often involve other motor vehicles, at times they instead involve individuals not afforded the protection of a steel car frame in the form of walkers and bicyclists. As all are likely aware it is always possible that the outcome of a collision involving two vehicles will be death to those involved. The chance of this happening is even greater when it is a pedestrian who is struck.

Earlier this month the family of a Pittsburgh area man learned this firsthand. The 48-year-old man was killed after being hit by a car on a private access road that leads to an industrial site. Following the fatal incident the man who was driving the car that hit the pedestrian sought assistance from the police.

There are many reasons that accidents such as this one occur that involve actions on both the part of the driver as well as the person walking. One of the more common causes cited by drivers is that they did not see the pedestrian. This is what apparently happened in this case. According to the Aliquippa police chief, the accident occurred before 7:00 a.m. when it was still dark. It was also raining at the time and the person who was walking was wearing dark colored clothing.

At this point it does not appear that the driver of the vehicle will face criminal charges of any sort as a result of this fatal motor vehicle accident. This of course does not mean that a civil case could not be filed. It is possible that he could face a wrongful death lawsuit brought by loved ones of the man who died.
