Parents throughout the Pittsburgh area are likely well aware of all of the products necessary when one has a child. Perhaps one of the most important when it comes to safety is a good car seat. They are relied upon each day to ensure the safety of young children as they are transported from one place to another in a vehicle. Because of this reliance, it is particularly upsetting when the seats do not provide that safety.
Earlier this month a voluntary recall was issued by child car seat maker Britax. The recall includes six different models of convertible car seats being sold in both the United States and neighboring Canada. The styles of the defective car seat residents of Pennsylvania may have purchased include:
- Britax Boulevard 70-G3
- Pavilion 70-G3
- Advocate 70-G3
These particular seats were made this past summer, starting in June and ending in August.
The reason for the recall is an issue that is commonly cited when children's products are concerned-a choking hazard. In this instance, the hazard reportedly exists due to the chest pads on the seats. According to the company, it is possible for little pieces of the pads to come lose should children bit them. As children are often prone to gnawing on things, this is clearly an issue.
Britax will remedy the defective material by providing new pads constructed of a different product.
It is unclear whether any children were injured as a result of the car seat pads. If they were it is possible their parents would decide to file a products liability lawsuit to obtain damages.
