This time of year many residences of Pennsylvania take to their yards, rake in hand, to gather all the leaves that have fallen from the trees. In preparation for winter, many communities throughout the nation, cities also clean up the leaves in the street. As is the case anytime any motor vehicle takes to the streets, it is possible that the trucks involved could be involved in an accident.
Recently a pedestrian in another northern state was injured when a truck designed to collect leaves on the road struck the person. Though the nature of the injuries is not known, they were described as critical. The truck involved in the collision has a front-mounted vacuum system.
This is not the first time this type of truck has struck a pedestrian. Last fall, an 18-year-old was actually killed after being hit by a leaf collection truck with a front-mounted vacuum system.
The community in which these pedestrian accidents occurred has taken steps to prevent any further incidents from occurring. All of these types of trucks have been pulled from the streets. Other types of collection methods are being utilized to collect the leaves. Any workers who are found in violation of the rule can be ticketed. The owner of the truck could be ticketed as well.
It is not clear if trucks similar to the one involved in this incident are in use in the state of Pennsylvania. If they are, authorities should take note of the accidents occurring due to the design of the truck.
